The Anatomy of Deception ~ Exposing the Root – part 2

(Part 2 – continued from part 1)spiritual_warfare_pic (Navigation forward and backward to other posts at bottom of screen)

Jesus’ interaction with Peter in Matthew 16 is a powerful example, demonstrating how we can unwittingly hear from BOTH SIDES of the spiritual realm that is all around us. This is a perfect illustration of the truth that not all of the thoughts which come to us originate with us. The Lord is speaking to us and the enemy is speaking to us. Yet when these thoughts come, they sound as though they are our own. If we do not understand this, then we are in much greater danger of failing to recognize and reject the thoughts inspired by our enemy, and failing to accept and act on the thoughts inspired by God. We must learn to discern the spirits behind the thoughts and messages which come to us, so that we can believe, receive, speak, and act in agreement with those that come from God, and we can recognize, resist, reject and replace those that come from the enemy! God’s Word provides the foundation and standard to which all else must be compared.

Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God’s will in thought, purpose, and action), So that the man of God may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work. II Timothy 3:16-17

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. Hebrews 4:12-13

Jesus’ temptation in the wilderness is a great example of the kind of spiritual warfare each of us faces (Matthew 4:1-11). I have serious doubts about the common idea that Jesus could literally see Satan incarnate there with Him. If we could see the devil tempting us, and knew who he was, for many of us this would severely dilute the lure of his enticements, to the point of making them impotent in most cases. The visible and tangible unveiling of the father of lies speaking to us in a given situation, who desires only to destroy us, would empower most of us to resist and reject him. Instead, I find it much more likely that Jesus’ battle was fought just like the majority of our battles with the devil and his demons ~ in the battlefield of the mind.

Some have proposed that we can get so close to the Lord that we will not have to deal with any harassment from the enemy or even hear his voice. I believe this is not only untrue, but is dangerous to believe and teach. If we believe we have reached a point where we no longer hear the enemy’s voice, we will no longer discern and resist him; we will be easy prey. No one has ever been closer to the Father than Jesus (perfectly One with Him), yet Jesus still heard the voice (lies, temptations) of the enemy. The Lord did not say that His wolf-sheeps-clothingtrue sheep (followers) would not hear the voice of the enemy; He said that when we hear it, with His help through His Word and Spirit we will be able to discern that it is the voice of the enemy (the voice of a “stranger”) and flee from it (John 10, Romans 12:1-2, I Timothy 4:13-16, II Timothy 2:15; 3:10-4:5, II Thessalonians 2:9-15, Hebrews 4:12-13).

We saw above in Hebrews 4:12 that God’s Word is literally alive and is sharper than a double-edged sword. Ephesians 6 says it is the sword of the Spirit, one of our essential offensive weapons which we MUST use to overcome the enemy. Jesus demonstrated the kind of spiritual warfare we must all learn to engage in to walk in His world-overcoming victory. He had to discern that the thoughts coming to Him were not His own and were not the voice of His Father, but were the voice of the enemy challenging His submission to the Father’s Word and will. Each time, Jesus discerned and defeated the lies of the enemy with the sword of the Spirit by declaring the truth from God’s Word ~ “It is written…!” We see a vivid picture of this reality in the spiritual realm in Revelation, where we find a greater unveiling (revelation) of the Lord Himself with this double-edged sword proceeding from His mouth (Revelation 1:10-18; 2:12-17; 19:11-21).

In His right hand He held seven stars, and from His mouth there came forth a sharp two-edged sword, and His face was like the sun shining in full power at midday. Revelation 1:16

After that I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse [appeared]! The One Who was riding it is called Faithful (Trustworthy, Loyal, Incorruptible, Steady) and True, and He passes judgment and wages war in righteousness (holiness, justice, and uprightness). His eyes [blaze] like a flame of fire, and on His head are many kingly crowns (diadems); and He has a title (name) inscribed which He alone knows or can understand. He is dressed in a robe dyed by dipping in blood, and the title by which He is called is The Word of God. And the troops of heaven, clothed in fine linen, dazzling and clean, followed Him on white horses. From His mouth goes forth a sharp sword with which He can smite (afflict, strike) the nations; … And on His garment (robe) and on His thigh He has a name (title) inscribed, KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. Revelation 19:11-16

This same powerful sword of the Spirit, God’s Word, is available to us and we must use it to recodiscernmentgnize, resist, and refute the enemy’s lies. Jesus was even able to identify when the enemy tried to twist the Word and use it to deceive Him (Matthew 4:6-7). For this same reason, we also need to know the full counsel of the Word so that we can discern the spirits behind the thoughts that come to us and the things spoken by others in order to avoid being deceived.

II Corinthians 6 and 10 also speak about this type of warfare.

We put no obstruction in anybody’s way [we give no offense in anything], so that no fault may be found and [our] ministry blamed and discredited. But we commend ourselves in every way as [true] servants of God: through great endurance, in tribulation and suffering, in hardships and privations, in sore straits and calamities, In beatings, imprisonments, riots, labors, sleepless watching, hunger; By innocence and purity, knowledge and spiritual insight, longsuffering and patience, kindness, in the Holy Spirit, in unfeigned love; By [speaking] the word of truth, in the power of God, with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand [to attack] and for the left hand [to defend] II Corinthians 6:3-7

For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. II Corinthians 10:3-5

Though in context these passages seem to refer more to the fact that our spiritual weapons can demolish the arguments and strongholds in others’ minds that are opposed to the Truth (the One who IS Truth and His Word), they can certainly apply to the battle the enemy wages against our own minds and lives as well. When we fail to do this, and instead unwittingly listen to the enemy, receive his lies into our hearts and minds, accept them as our own thoughts, and begin to think, speak, and act in agreement with them, we end up in deception and bondage to sin. Thankfully, the Lord is able to bring freedom and deliverance by helping us get to the root of those lies, even exposing how the door was first opened for them to be sown into our hearts.

The Anatomy of Deception ~ Exposing the Root – part 1

I’ve had this testimony on my heart for a few months. I typed it up last week and have been praying about whether to post. We received many confirmations in Sunday’s sermon, but kept praying to be certain we should share.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In 2004, during our first season of extended fasting, we experienced a truth we were previously ignorant to. We were rudely awakened to the reality that fasting not only sensitizes us to God’s side of the spiritual realm, but to the entire spiritual realm. We not only began to hear the voice of the Lord more clearly and experience His tangible Presence, but we were also sensitized to hearing more clearly from the enemy and feeling his presence as well. Had God not clearly revealed to us what was happening we could have lost our minds.
Through this time of the enemy being increasingly exposed to us, the Lord began to teach us about the anatomy of deception ~ revealing strategies the enemy uses to deceive people and lekronk-shoulder-devilad them away into the captivity of sin. We’ve probably all seen comical illustrations of an angel and a demon perched on the opposite shoulders of a person, vying for his or her attention, agreement, and cooperation. This is an amusing way to portray the very real and potentially deadly spiritual battle which occurs in each of our lives with very real spiritual beings.
The things God showed us are applicable to understanding and fighting spiritual warfare in order to overcome any area of temptation, deception, attack, and sin; but this testimony involves a specific issue in the spotlight in our nation and the world, regarding a truth from God’s Word that has been increasingly challenged and rejected in our day. As he has done since the beginning, the enemy always comes to challenge God’s Word, hissing in our ears, “Did God really say…?” He does everything he can to attack the Word because he knows it/He is his ancient foe, holding the power to destroy his works in our lives. We must hold to the Truth of God’s Word in order to avoid being deceived. This story illustrates how the Lord is able and willing to help us get to the root of areas where we’ve already been deceived, exposing the strategies the enemy used to lead us captive into sin, so that He can heal us, deliver us, and set us free.
****************************************************
On one occasion we were ministering to someone who was deceived regarding his sexual identity. He was not fighting the deception by renewing his mind to the truth of who God created him to be based on His Word. Instead he had embraced the idea that God made him this way and had been deceived into thinking this was an acceptable lifestyle consistent with Christian faith. We always ministered to him in love, but the Lord was challenging us to love him enough to speak the truth to him about his beliefs and lifestyle. We desperately needed wisdom to know how to speak the truth in a way that would penetrate through every layer of deception he had embraced. We knew he was part of a church that promoted his beliefs and had heard many Scriptural arguments in the past against his point of view, yet remained unmoved. We also knew the truth that God had not created him this way and that this lifestyle was still against His Word and will. But we needed more than wise and persuasive words; we needed a demonstration of the Spirit’s power (I Corinthians 2:4) ~ we needed SUPERnatural Help!
Based on the things the Lord had taught us about spiritual warfare and the anatomy of deception, I began to pray for God to give me a supernatural word of knowledge to reveal the exact time in his life when the door was first opened for the devil to deceive him in this area. When I first began praying for this revelation, I kept hearing a specific age in my heart, and felt the Lord was telling me he had been molested/sexually abused at that age and that through this the enemy began sowing seeds of deception in his heart and mind regarding his sexual identity. As I continued praying and seeking the Lord, one day I had a vision (a picture) come to mind of him at this young age with a circle of boys standing around him. I was not sure if the Lord was telling me that he had been abused by multiple boys at different times, or if, as this appeared, he was actually abused by multiple boys simultaneously (such as a gang situation).
Being so new at hearing from God in this way, I continued praying over this for months asking for further confirmation if I was truly hearing from Him. Instead of telling Jesse what I believed God had spoken and shown to me, I asked him to pray about it too, hoping God would confirm these things by revealing them to him as well. But Jesse wasn’t getting any revelation when he prayed. So, I finally took a deep breath and a leap of faith to send our friend a message, sharing what I believed God showed me and of His desire to heal him from these things that happened which opened the door to this deception in his life. After I’d sent the message, I panicked, afraid that if I was wrong, he would feel further justified in discrediting and rejecting the truth of God’s Word about this issue, as well as about the gifts of the Spirit. So I pleaded with Jesse to pray again and just ask the Lord to tell him what age our friend was when the door was opened for him to be deceived in this way. Jesse went to pray and returned with an answer ~ the exact same age that I believed the Lord had told me (which I had never told him)! This confirmation brought me immense relief and peace.
Within a few days our friend responded, telling me the things I said were true. He had been molested/sexually abused at that age by a group of boys. Though he was amazed that the Lord had revealed this to us and grateful for the things we shared, he was still not ready to turn away from his way of life and walk through the process of healing and restoration with the Lord (though others we know have been delivered and healed). We continue to pray that the knowledge that the Lord supernaturally revealed this information to us in response to our prayers has planted seeds of Truth in his heart that will continue to grow until they uproot every plant the enemy has sown in his life and produce a harvest of righteousness. We pray this revelation will help him truly come to believe that God did not create him with those feelings and desires, that this is not his true sexual identity, but rather a deception that entered his life through the open door of wrongs, woundings, and abuse committed against him in his childhood. Knowing these truths is critically important for those who need to be set free from deception and have their identity restored to what God created and intended them to be.
******************************************************
Again, the same applies to every area where any of us have been led into bondage to sin by the lies of the enemy. Only when we know the Truth can we begin to identify the lies the enemy has sown in our hearts andtransformed-renewing-mind minds that have grown until they’re exalted above the Truth of God’s Word in our lives. When we know the Truth we can begin to take the lies captive, cast them down, and bring them into obedience to Christ (II Corinthians 10:3-5)  ~ exalting Jesus, His Word, and will back to the throne of highest authority in our lives and bringing all areas under His Lordship.
Ninevah’s Shore ~ “Don’t Stop Till Your Mission is Complete” (Plus “Jesus Has Overcome Everything” by Rick Renner) – part 2
(Part 2 – continued from same day)
I’ve attached Rick’s devo below and pray that it encourages those who have been following the Lord’s will for their lives to endure to the end and finish their course, regardless of the cost. I know we’re all eternally grateful that the Lord didn’t give up and quit when things became intensely difficult and painful for Him. He pressed on and endured all the way through to the end for our sake! We pray we will all be strengthened and committed to do the same for Him, determining to stay the course and fulfill our calling, not stopping until we know we’ve completed all He’s asked us to do for His Kingdom and glory! (Will try to remember to add the link to this on Rick’s website when it is available)
Ninevah’s Shore ~ “Don’t Stop Till Your Mission is Complete” (Plus “Jesus Has Overcome Everything” by Rick Renner) – part 1
At the beginning of the week we believed the Lord asked us to post this word from Sparkling Gems from the Greek (attached). As we’ve continued seeking we got a crystal clear confirmation yesterday afternoon. The Lord revealed that some are teaching this exact idea that Rick mentions and confronts here ~ the idea that Paul could have completely avoided the things he suffered as he fulfilled his calling if he had a greater revelation of faith. The Lord highlighted that some are “denying the cross” in the sense that they are misunderstanding/denying the truth that we are called to take up our cross and follow Him (laying down and losing our lives for Him in whatever way required). Some have been misled into rejecting every form of suffering as being the result of a lack of faith. We had heard some of these misunderstandings in past years, but had not heard them very recently, so this message was not on our radar screen at this particular time. But the Lord is saying that these teachings are indeed still circulating and causing confusion and harm. He wants us to understand the price that comes with choosing to truly follow and live for Him.
Due to the tremendous blessing of growing up in our Christian nation, we certainly haven’t all been subjected to the same degree of suffering as we see in Paul’s life (described below), but we believe the Lord has been repeatedly emphasizing to us that He wants to prepare all His people for whatever may come as we live out the last of the last days. Those who have not been prepared for the possibility of the kind of suffering for their faith in the Lord and the Truth of His Word that other believers have had to endure in other parts of the world and throughout history are much more likely to fall away and abandon the Lord and His Truth if faced with increased opposition. If we look throughout history, I think we would find that our Western experience thus far has been the exception and not the rule within Christianity, thanks to the price others paid who went before us.
As we’ve sought Him the last several months to lead us to what we need to know and understand for the coming time, He’s been showing us some things beyond what we would ever want to believe could be possible, things that we would have likely written off had He not surrounded us with the same message through multiple different unrelated sources at the same time in answer to our prayers. We’re not yet sure what He’s asking us to share about this and continue to seek Him for final clarity. But the word posted last year, Sobering Song from the Savior, keeps coming to mind in connection with these things.
Though we know things must eventually come to pass that are prophesied as part of the last days and the ultimate destruction of “Babylon,” the fact remains that the Lord is still urging His people to help avert certain things from occurring now in this nation through repentance (first in the church) and re-establishing our Christian foundations ~ that we will be part of a third great Awakening and unprecedented harvest for His Kingdom. He continues to give us this hope and faith, still taking us to the story of Gideon and confirming what He’s telling us in amazing ways (through our pastor and others). But as He emphasized to us at the beginning of April from that story, in order for this to happen, each one of us must find our place, take our stand in the place assigned to us, and carry out His plan. “They stood every man in his place Gideon's army 2round about the camp….”  (Judges 7). For this reason, the message below from Rick is vital to help those who have been knocked off their post through the attacks of the enemy to get back in their place and continue until their assignments are complete.
Also from Judges 7 the Lord emphasized in the past months the concept that, The people who are with you are too many for Me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel boast about themselves against Me, saying, My own hand has delivered me.” From this He highlighted not only the truth that He is able to bring about this miraculous deliverance through the remnant that He is calling out and raising up, no matter how small, but He also highlighted the truth that He is still taking that remnant through the process of being stripped down and emptied out of all that is not of Him (as mentioned in past posts). There’s not just “too many” in the sense of numbers of people, there’s still “too much” of the people He has called. Just as in Gideon’s story, the Lord cut away and separated out those He knew could not fulfill His plan, HeJohn 15-2 is continuing to perform this same process on His remnant individually and internally, cutting away and separating out all from each one of us all that is “excess” that cannot go with us into the fulfillment of His divine plan. This refers not only to the flesh, but anything that could have been deemed as being to our natural advantage, so that when His promises are fulfilled ALL will know that it was only God who could have brought it to pass. This final cutting, stripping, and emptying is a part of the final testing process He revealed at the beginning of this year. As our guest speakers (Glenn Henderson and his wife) confirmed at church a few weeks ago, God is putting His remnant back in the oven (aka ~ the fire) until we’re “done,” and He wants us “Well Done” as good and faithful servants. 😉 Help us Jesus!!
Lastly, He also pointed out the seeming “foolishness” of His ways and plan through the dream given to Gideon’s enemies.
When Gideon arrived, behold, a man was telling a dream to his comrade. And he said, Behold, I dreamed a dream, and behold, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the camp of Midian and came to the tent and struck it so that it fell, and turned it upside down so that the tent lay flat.14 And his comrade replied, This is nothing else but the sword of Gideon son of Joash, a man of Israel. Into his hand God has given Midian and all the host.15 When Gideon heard the telling of the dream and its interpretation, he worshiped and returned to the camp of Israel and said, Arise, for the Lord has given into your hand the host of Midian.
I love the seeming absurdity of God’s ways, that an army could be defeated by a mere loaf of bread rolling into the camp! We can gain more insight by looking at the type of bread God used in this imagery. According to some, barley can represent something deemed to be “less than” in the eyes of the world. The footnote in the Amplified states:
Alluding to the insignificance of Gideon and his family, or perhaps his whole troop. Barley then, as it is still, was distinguished from “fine flour.” “To hear himself but a Barley-cake, troubled him not. It matters not how base we be thought, so [loordinary people to fulfill extraordinary plansng as] we be victorious” (Bishop Joseph Hall, cited by The Cambridge Bible).”
And indeed, this confirmed the message God has been reminding us of that He delights in using the people and plans the world despises, disregards, and disqualifies in order that He will get ALL the glory!
For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.26 Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, 29 so that no one may boast before him. I Corinthians 1:25-29
As I continued to research the spiritual meaning of barley in Scripture, I was in awe when I saw that others have shown that it symbolizes “good (not only inwardly, but demonstrated externally ~ moral good) and truth”!!!!! This again confirms that it will be through the church’s repentance and return to God’s standard of truth, tearing down all altars to “false gods” and “idols,” and re-establishing the altar of the Lord in our own hearts, lives, and in the nation, that will bring the victory. If God’s people will rise up as the salt and light He has called us to be, with His standard of good and truth, He can bring about the victory we need ~ no matter how small and seemingly insignificant the remnant may be (again upholding the truth in love, always remembering our true battle is not against flesh and blood – Ephesians 6, II Corinthians 10:3-6).
“Watching over My Word ~ Both for Good and for Harm” (our response to Him decides) – part 2
(Part 2)
God has made both heaven and hell increasingly real to us in the past few years. He has made hell more real to us than we ever desired it to be, the realization of the torment people are experiencing there now, with no hope, no way out, and no end, and how more and more people are going there every day ~ to the point where we’ve felt such urgency that we’ve had moments of temptation to fulfill the John the Baptist call a bit more literally by beginning to cry out in the streets (without the camel’s hair garments and locusts). Obviously we submit all to the Lord, not wanting to go forth in the arm of the flesh, but to channel the urgency He is birthing in us into the divine strategies which only He can give for accomplishing His will. So we pray that all the urgency that is possible to convey in words, can come through this message to encourage all to truly know Jesus as Lord and Savior and follow Him. We pray all will walk every day in transparency before Him, sincerely allowing Him to examine our hearts, minds, and lives, to point out every way that is offensive to Him and help us uproot and purge those things from our lives. We should remember that Jesus told the majority of the churches in Revelation that He had something against them (Revelation 2-3). His words stand in stark contrast to the types of “God doesn’t have anything against you” messages we hear preached to masses worldwide today. Again, the infiltration of counterfeit grace/lawlessness has caused many to prophesy, “Peace, peace” to many when there is no peace.
As mentioned in previous notes, this is not referring to mistakes we still make and repent of (turn from) as we walk in the light of truth with the Lord, wholeheartedly seeking to follow His will. This is referring to sins we continue to tolerate and permit, walking according to the flesh instead of the Spirit habitually in any area ~ sins that have become a way of life. As some of the churches in Revelation discovered, these were not even sins they were necessarily aware of (losing their first love for the Lord, lukewarmness, and tolerating teaching that promoted sin, in addition to those who were living in willful sin).
For this reason we should all be allowing the Lord to search us and give us this same type of reality check regarding how He sees us and where we truly stand with Him. Though it’s heartbreaking when He reveals He has something against us, we can know He does so because He deeply loves us and that He is with us and in us to give us the grace/power to change. How much better it is to allow Him to unveil the things that are hard to face now while there’s still time to repent and bring our lives in line with His will again, than to persist in a condition of spiritual blindness, deceived about our true condition until it is too late. The promises in Revelation are for overcomers. God’s divine power has already given us EVERYTHING we need for life and godliness; He has provided all we need to overcome by the power of His blood, Name, Word, and Spirit. After I posted the note earlier this year talking about the Biblical significance of the number 13, the Lord showed me that 13 also has a special significance in Jewish culture as the year in which children transition into adulthood. It is an age associated with maturity which marks a turning point in one’s life. The child turns from childish ways to a life of increased responsibility and accountability, which also results in increased rights. As many may know, 13 is also associated with the chapter of God’s love in Scripture (I Corinthians 13, which also has 13 verses). So we pray this will be a year for the church to reach full maturity in the love of God, that the mature sons and daughters of the King may be revealed (Romans 8:18-25, I John). We pray all will truly walk in the light of truth with Him, turn from all sin His light reveals, live under His Lordship in every area of our lives, continually grow in the fruit of His character, and lay hold of all God has purchased and provided for us through Jesus.
His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins. Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. II Peter 1:3-11
Although the Lord has said He is watching over His word of judgment against our nation, He has also given us Jeremiah 18 again. Though it still speaks of judgment, it also says that when He has announced He is going to uproot what He planted and tear down what He built (which is what He told us about our nation), that if the people repent, He will turn from His plan. So we continue to pray that the church/nation will respond now to this message He is trumpeting in time so that destruction may be turned back. We pray that all do our part to repent and turn others to repentance, but that we are also fully prepared in the event that these things happen as He has said. We received another confirmation last night of His judgment bringing terror and destruction for one group, and protection under the shelter of His presence for another group (those truly in Christ). Though He often seems to be speaking to us in terms of being protected through (in the midst of) what is coming (like Noah, the Israelites in Goshen, and Philadelphia in Revelation), that does not diminish the fact that He is also still speaking about His soon return and His admonition to all to be ready to stand before Him. He has repeatedly encouraged us to live in such a way that our lives count as nothing to us except that we could finish our race and complete the task He has given us (like Paul). This is our cry! We pray each and every one will faithfully finish their course and be able to hear Him say, “Well done!”
Dear friends, this is now my second letter to you. I have written both of them as reminders to stimulate you to wholesome thinking. I want you to recall the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets and the command given by our Lord and Savior through your apostles. First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water. By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.
Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness. So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him.
Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction. Therefore, dear friends, since you already know this, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men and fall from your secure position. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen. II Peter 3
Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life. “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes shall not be hurt by the second death.”’ Revelation 2:10b-11
“Watching over My Word ~ Both for Good and for Harm” (our response to Him decides) – part 1
Still continuing to press in. The more we seek the Lord, the more He confirms in breathtaking ways the things He’s been telling us. He’s poured out so much in the past few months and in response we’ve experienced opposite extremes:
~ One day we would be feeling as though we could launch through the roof with joy for the exceedingly, abundantly, above all we could ask, hope, or imagine “new thing” He’s saying He’s about to do for those who have been following Him, surrendering to His “crucifixion” process on the way to “resurrection” into our destinies. Many have been in a season of final testing on the precipice of the Promised Land, and have also been receiving God’s divine strategy for bringing down the walls of Jericho (much more to this, perhaps to be shared another time). The Lord gave us Job 23:10 and Daniel 4:35 to stand on and has confirmed both multiple times. We pray all will come forth as gold into the next dimension of glory He has prepared for us. He is watching to see that His Word, promises, prophecies over our lives are fulfilled, and nothing is too hard for Him! He who promised is faithful! His banner over us is love! He has saved the best wine for last that the glory of the latter house will be greater than all that has come before!
~ Then the next day we could be pierced through over the things He is still saying regarding those in the church/nation who have rejected His cry to repent. For these too, He has said He is watching over His Word to perform it. He continues to say that because people have rejected His call to repentance that He is now watching over the nation for harm instead of for good (Jeremiah 44). If all would truly hear and believe what He’s saying, the church/nation would be repenting in sackcloth and ashes.
Though He has repeatedly spoken of destruction that’s coming, He also speaks of the repentance and restoration which will follow for those who remain (Jeremiah 32, and others). As mentioned in a recent note, He also continues to talk about His coming (Zechariah 9, among others). While this is thrilling it is also extremely sobering because so many are not ready. Tragically, He continues to show us that many who believe they are saved are truly lost in sin. He confirmed this three more days in a row last week. This is largely due to the counterfeit grace that has pervaded the church gradually through the years. This knowledge has also been a source of piercing and grieving. I can imagine nothing more horrible than the moment Jesus described in Matthew 7 when many will realize too late they were deceived ~ with the exception, of course, of the eternal horror that follows. We cry out to turn as many from this deception as possible.
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.” Matthew 7:21-27
We must understand there is no such thing as “once saved, always saved.”
But of that [exact] day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. As were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. For just as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, [men] marrying and [women] being given in marriage, until the [very] day when Noah went into the ark, And they did not know or understand until the flood came and swept them all away—so will be the coming of the Son of Man. At that time two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one will be left. Two women will be grinding at the hand mill; one will be taken and one will be left. Watch therefore give strict attention, be cautious and active], for you do not know in what kind of a day [whether a near or remote one] your Lord is coming. But understand this: had the householder known in what [part of the night, whether in a night or a morning] watch the thief was coming, he would have watched and would not have allowed his house to be undermined and broken into. You also must be ready therefore, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not expect Him. Who then is the faithful, thoughtful, and wise servant, whom his master has put in charge of his household to give to the others the food and supplies at the proper time? Blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied) is that servant whom, when his master comes, he will find so doing. I solemnly declare to you, he will set him over all his possessions. But if that servant is wicked and says to himself, My master is delayed and is going to be gone a long time, And begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with the drunken, The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour of which he is not aware, And will punish him [cut him up by scourging] and put him with the pretenders (hypocrites); there will be weeping and grinding of teeth. Matthew 24:36-51
Where there is no longer faithfulness, there is no longer true faith. True faith produces following our Lord.
Neither is there such a thing as “once filled (with the Spirit), always filled.”
“Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish. Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight a cry was heard: ‘Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!’ Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ But the wise answered, saying, ‘No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’ And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut. Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us!’ But he answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.” Matthew 25:1-13
We must purpose to abide in the Vine, sow to the Spirit, and stay full of Him. (John 14-15, Galatians 5:16-25; 6:7-9)
We believe the Lord showed us that the enemy did not attempt to take the church straight from God’s standard of Truth to full blown lawlessness in one step. He has sown seeds of counterfeit grace for many years in the church, in order to take people increment by increment, new “revelation” by new “revelation” which distorted Truth in order to bring people to the point where they would finally embrace the full message of lawlessness. This is not to say that there has not also been genuine revelation of grace and a greater awakening to all that is ours through our covenant, for those who truly remain in Christ, because we have been made righteous through faith in Him. But there have also been many “revelations” based on removing Scriptures from context which have resulted in extremes of error. For this reason, there are various degrees and nuances of these messages, intermingled with truth, throughout the church, even where people have not been taken all the way down the path to the full message of lawlessness. This is where we were when the Lord sat down on our theology and wrecked it with Truth. Though we had never embraced even the undertones of lawlessness we had heard, we had allowed shades of counterfeit grace to alter some of our beliefs. When God first dramatically brought us back to Truth, we began asking Him what we needed to repent of, and the first thing He told us was that our theology had caused us to speak, “Peace, peace! ” to people when there was no peace. We cry out that all others who have been deceived into doing the same through their theology will fall on their faces before the Lord and allow Him to correct them in every area so they will not be deceived or deceive others. We pray that the Lord will get the truth to any we (and others) have prophesied “peace” to, when if we had truly stood in the council of the Lord we would have spoken the truth He wanted spoken that would have called for repentance from sin (Jeremiah 23:9-24). Some of the words the Lord has been giving us continue to speak of the judgment of the false prophets who are continuing to oppose the true word of the Lord and cause people to trust in the deceptive words of counterfeit grace (Jeremiah 13-14, Jeremiah 28 – Eerily, He gave me this word when I asked if He was really telling me this would occur this year.). He continues to say the blood of those who are lost through these teachings will be on the hands of those teaching them. Again, it breaks our hearts to imagine, knowing that many do so believing what they teach to be right and true. We pray that all will seek the Lord now for an accounting of what they believe and teach while there is still time. We continue to pray all will wholeheartedly seek Truth, and will cry out to the Lord to dismantle every distortion, deception, and error that may have been unwittingly received.
to be continued…
KEEP AWAKE!
Last night I dreamed that my mother (again, representing the church) was driving on very dark and dangerous (extraordinarily steep and curvy) roads. We noticed she was not driving well and kept coming close to wrecking. When we looked at her to see what was going on, we realized she was asleep at the wheel. We began to call out to her, “MOM (CHURCH), WAKE UP!” But she asleep at the wheelwas in such a deep sleep that this didn’t wake her. We began shaking her, continuing to cry out “MOM (CHURCH), YOU’RE SLEEPING! WAKE UP!” She finally awakened and began watching the road again, but soon afterward we discovered she had fallen into another deep sleep. This process occurred over and over of having to SHAKE HER with increased intensity, while crying out to her to “WAKE UP!” in order to prevent a wreck. Eventually, she could no longer see the road clearly marked before her and had to pull over to the side to try to regain her bearings.
Cars/driving represent vehicles to destiny. The church is driving through dark and dangerous territory. Yet she has not remained awake, alert, aware of the dangerous territory, cautious, vigilant, and focused on the road ahead; she has fallen into a deep sleep at the wheel (asleep to the things of God, distracted and occupied with self interests and the cares and pleasures of the world). The Lord has sent people as a voice crying out to her to “WAKE UP!” Yet, her sleep has been so deep that this has not been sufficient. When we do not wake up through words of warning alone, the Lord sends SHAKING. This has awakened the church temporarily, but very soon afterward, she has fallen back asleep. It is the love and grace of God to continue crying out to the church and shaking her with increased intensity as much as is necessary to awaken her in order to prevent her from wrecking. The road may eventually become so dark and uncertain before us that we can no longer keep pressing forward until we stop and come aside with the Lord to once again find the way.
I believe the following powerful Scriptures, which convey the Lord’s cry to WAKE UP and STAY AWAKE, are extremely important for this time! Praying for us all!
“Then He (Jesus) said to them, My soul is very sad and deeply grieved, so that I am almost dying of sorrow. Stay here and keep awake and keep watch with Me. And going a little farther, He threw Himself upon the ground on His face and prayed saying, My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will [not what I desire], but as You will and desire. And He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and He said to Peter, What! Are you so utterly unable to stay awake and keep watch with Me for one hour? All of you must KEEP AWAKE (give strict attention, be cautious and active) and WATCH AND PRAY, that you may not come into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
So, leaving them again, He went away and prayed for the third time, using the same words. Then He returned to the disciples and said to them, Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? Behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of especially wicked sinners whose way or nature it is to act in opposition to God]. Get up, let us be going! See, My betrayer is at hand!” Matthew 26:38-41, 44-46 AMP
Keep your loins girded and your lamps burning, And be like men who are waiting for their master to return home from the marriage feast, so that when he returns from the wedding and comes and knocks, they may open to him immediately. Blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied) are those servants whom the master finds AWAKE and ALERT and watching when he comes. Truly I say to you, he will gird himself and have them recline at table and will come and serve them! If he comes in the second watch (before midnight) or the third watch (after midnight), and finds them so, blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied) are those servants! But of this be assured: if the householder had known at what time the burglar was coming, he would have been AWAKE and ALERT and WATCHING and would not have permitted his house to be dug through and broken into. You also must BE READY, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour and a moment when you do not anticipate it. Peter said, Lord, are You telling this parable for us, or for all alike? And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful steward, the wise man whom his master will set over those in his household service to supply them their allowance of food at the appointed time? Blessed (happy and to be envied) is that servant whom his master finds so doing when he arrives. Truly I tell you, he will set him in charge over all his possessions. But if that servant says in his heart, My master is late in coming, and begins to strike the menservants and the maids and to eat and drink and get drunk, The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour of which he does not know, and will punish him and cut him off and assign his lot with the unfaithful {unbelievers}. And that servant who knew his master’s will but did not get ready or act as he would wish him to act shall be beaten with many [lashes]. But he who did not know and did things worthy of a beating shall be beaten with few [lashes]. For everyone to whom much is given, of him shall much be required; and of him to whom men entrust much, they will require and demand all the more.” Luke 12:35-48 AMP
“But take heed to yourselves and be on your guard, lest your hearts be overburdened and depressed (weighed down) with the giddiness and headache and nausea {dissipation} of self-indulgence, drunkenness, and worldly worries and cares pertaining to [the business of] this life, and [lest] that day come upon you suddenly like a trap or a noose; For it will come upon all who live upon the face of the entire earth. KEEP AWAKE then and WATCH AT ALL TIMES [be discreet, attentive, and ready], praying that you may have the full strength and ability and be accounted worthy to escape all these things [taken together] that will take place, and to stand in the presence of the Son of Man.Luke 21:34-36 AMP
“Do not be so deceived and misled! Evil companionships (communion, associations) corrupt and deprave good manners and morals and character. AWAKE [from your drunken stupor and return] to sober sense and your right minds, and sin no more. For some of you have not the knowledge of God [you are utterly and willfully and disgracefully ignorant, and continue to be so, lacking the sense of God’s presence and all true knowledge of Him]. I say this to your shame.” I Corinthians 15:33-34 AMP
“For you yourselves know perfectly well that the day of the [return of the] Lord will come [as unexpectedly and suddenly] as a thief in the night. When people are saying, All is well and secure, and, There is peace and safety, then in a moment unforeseen destruction (ruin and death) will come upon them as suddenly as labor pains come upon a woman with child; and they shall by no means escape, for there will be no escape. But you are not in [given up to the power of] darkness, brethren, for that day to overtake you by surprise like a thief. For you are all sons of light and sons of the day; we do not belong either to the night or to darkness. Accordingly then, let us not sleep, as the rest do, but let us KEEP WIDE AWAKE (alert, watchful, cautious, and on our guard) and let us be sober (calm, collected, and circumspect). For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who are drunk, get drunk at night. But we belong to the day; therefore, let us be sober and put on the breastplate of faith and love and for a helmet the hope of salvation. For God has not appointed us to [incur His] wrath [He did not select us to condemn us], but [that we might] obtain [His] salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah)” I Thessalonians 5:2-9 AMP
“And to the angel (messenger) of the assembly (church) in Sardis write: These are the words of Him Who has the seven Spirits of God [the sevenfold Holy Spirit] and the seven stars: I know your record and what you are doing; you are supposed to be alive, but [in reality] you are dead. Rouse yourselves and KEEP AWAKE, and strengthen and invigorate what remains and is on the point of dying; for I have not found a thing that you have done [any work of yours] meeting the requirements of My God or perfect in His sight {for I have not found your works perfect/complete before God.}. So call to mind the lessons you received and heard; continually lay them to heart and obey them, and repent. In case you will not rouse yourselves and keep awake and watch, I will come upon you like a thief, and you will not know or suspect at what hour I will come. Yet you still have a few [persons’] names in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes, and they shall walk with Me in white, because they are worthy and deserving. Thus shall he who conquers (is victorious) be clad in white garments, and I will not erase or blot out his name from the Book of Life; I will acknowledge him [as Mine] and I will confess his name openly before My Father and before His angels. He who is able to hear, let him listen to and heed what the [Holy] Spirit says to the assemblies (churches).” Revelation 3:1-6 AMP
“Behold, I am going to come like a thief! Blessed (happy, to be envied) is he who STAYS AWAKE (alert) and who guards his clothes, so that he may not be naked and [have the shame of being] seen exposed!” Revelation 16:15 AMP
“Awake, awake, put on your strength, O Zion; put on your beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city; for henceforth there shall no more come into you the uncircumcised and the unclean. Shake yourself from the dust; arise, sit [erect in a dignified place], O Jerusalem; loose yourself from the bonds of your neck, O captive Daughter of Zion.” Isaiah 52:1-2
Are You Ready for Your Secret Life to be Exposed?
The Lord continues to speak to us about His soon return and coming judgment. As I’ve been praying the past several weeks about whether to post this note from years ago, He’s surrounded me with confirmations about Him seeing all that is done in secret and that all will give an account for their lives. In the past months, He’s also been repeatedly emphasizing that He wants His people to hear, understand, and act on the truth that we must “crucify” the flesh in order to be led by and live by His Spirit (Gal 5:16-26). We need to Live Ready.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Are You Ready for Your Secret Life to be Exposed?

And this is the message I proclaim—that the day is coming when God, through Christ Jesus,
will judge everyone’s secret life. Romans 2:16 NLT

What are you doing in secret? Do you have a hidden life others don’t know about?

God has promised that one day every hidden thing we’ve said or done will be brought out in the open.

There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. What you have said in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the roofs. Luke 12:2-3

Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. Hebrews 4:13

Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil. Ecclesiastes 12:13-14

Verses like these may cause some to break out in a cold sweat. Truly God sees everything and the things that are done in secret WILL eventually be brought into the light. This doesn’t refer only to what some consider “big” sins; Jesus revealed we will even give account for every idle word spoken (Matthew 12:33-37) and that our thoughts, motives, attitudes, and desires are not hidden from God (Matthew 5-7; 15:17-20). For many these truths may primarily evoke shame and fear… but they don’t have to.

If we’ve received Jesus as our Lord and Savior, repented (turned) from willful sin and are now living for Him, these promises can be a comfort and encouragement rather than a cause for fear. By the new heart and Spirit He gives us, we can live in such a way that when God turns our secret lives inside out for all to see, the result will be reward rather than reproach.

Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God.  II Corinthians 4:2

I have fought the good (worthy, honorable, and noble) fight, I have finished the race, I have kept (firmly held) the faith. [As to what remains] henceforth there is laid up for me the [victor’s] crown of righteousness [for being right with God and doing right], which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me and recompense me on that [great] day—and not to me only, but also to all those who have loved and yearned for and welcomed His appearing (His return). II Timothy 4:7-8

In Matthew 6, Jesus tells us a few facets of the secret lives God desires us to have:

… when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Matthew 6:3-4

… when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Matthew 6:6

… when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Matthew 6:17-18

We should understand these verses in balance with Matthew 5:13-16, which reveals that there are also many aspects of our Christian faith that are not meant to be exclusively hidden in secret, but lived out as a light in a dark world for others to see ~ the critical issue being the motives with which our public (or private) deeds are done, knowing even these hidden motives will be revealed (I Corinthians 4:1-5). Though we understand that no amount of good works could ever be sufficient to save us (only grace through faith in who Jesus is and what He’s done to redeem us), true faith in Jesus as our Lord and Savior will produce a life of loving, following, and living for Him. The Bible makes clear that where this fruit is not present, neither is true (saving) faith (Matthew 25:31-46, James 2:14-26 , II Corinthians 13:5).

Examine and test and evaluate your own selves to see whether you are holding to your faith and showing the proper fruits of it {some translations say “to see whether you are in the faith”}. Test and prove yourselves [not Christ]. Do you not yourselves realize and know [thoroughly by an ever-increasing experience] that Jesus Christ is in you—unless you are [counterfeits] disapproved on trial and rejected? II Corinthians 13:5

In the book of I John, John laid out in vital detail what we need to know in order to examine and determine whether we’re really remaining in the faith – “in Christ”/”in Him” – and whether we really know Him. While it’s important to read the book in its entirety, here are a few highlights:

By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. The one who says, “I have come to know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; but whoever follows His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfectedBy this we know that we are in Him: the one who says that he remains in Him ought, himself also, walk just as He walked. I John 2:3-6

Now, little children, remain in Him, so that when He appears, we may have confidence and not draw back from Him in shame at His coming.
If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness also has been born of Him. I John 2:28-29

No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him.
 Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous. Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God. 10 By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother. I John 3:6-10

Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.
19 By this we shall know that we are of the truth and reassure our heart before him; 20 for whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything. 21 Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God; 22 and whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him. 23 And this is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us. 24 Whoever keeps his commandments abides in God, and God in him. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit whom he has given us. I John 3:18-24

So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.
 17 By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. I John 4:16-18

John tells us we can have confidence in the day of judgment when secrets are revealed (4:17) and not have to draw back in shame (2:28-29), if we are those who have truly been born of God, know Him, and remain in Him and His love. This will be evidenced by His love continuing to be perfected in us – the fruit of which is seen in following His Word, keeping His commandments, practicing righteousness rather than sin, learning to live a life of love, even living/”walking” as Jesus did.

We often hear people quote the verse “perfect love casts out fear“, implying that GOD’S perfect love for US should cast all fear out of our lives, leaving no fear of punishment. This misunderstanding has unfortunately led some to conclusions that completely contradict Scripture. The revelation of God’s love for us was never intended to cast out “the fear of the Lord” or the revelation of His coming judgment. Though God loves everyone perfectly, we know from His Word that most will unfortunately still face judgment in the end for rejecting His love, because they wanted their own version of love void of His Truth. A closer look at the immediate context, and the context of John’s entire letter, reveals that rather, John was telling us that the way to live free from the fear of punishment is to allow OUR LOVE for God and others to be perfected in the ways he described in his letter. When we are in this world AS JESUS IS (4:17), in context meaning walking/living as Jesus (2:6) in obedience to the Father’s Word and will – this is the “perfected love” (2:5; 4:17) for God and others that will cast out fear and enable us to have confidence in the day of judgment.

A disciple is not above his teacher, but every one perfected shall be as his teacher. Luke 6:40 YLT

A pupil is not superior to his teacher, but everyone [when he is] completely trained (readjusted, restored, set to rights, and perfected) will be like his teacher. Luke 6:40 AMPC

For those who have been born again and remain in Christ, who pursue this perfected love for Him and others ~ the fact that what we do in secret is seen and heard by the Lord and will be brought out in the open can be a source of comfort and joy, rather than a source of fear (Malachi 3:16-17). Though none of us will ever reach perfection this side of Heaven, when our hearts are perfect toward Him, our aim will be to continually press toward the mark of this kind of perfected love. As we stay in close relationship with Him, His light exposes any shade of darkness we need to repent from, so we can turn away from wrong thoughts, attitudes, words, or actions back to Him and His will. And as we do, thank God His blood continually cleanses us from all unrighteousness (I John 1:5-10).

Clearly, we shouldn’t follow the Lord solely for the rewards. We should follow Him regardless of the cost because He is our Lord; we belong to and love Him. But what a comfort it is to know He desires to reward us. Though surely some of the rewards for the kind of secret life He calls us to live will only be given in the coming age, I don’t believe we have to wait for judgment day for every reward He’s promised (Mark 10:29-30). Just as secret sins eventually produce a visible harvest of destruction in the lives of those who continually commit them, I believe our secret acts of love, obedience, and faithfulness also eventually produce a visible harvest of reward in this life, as well as the next (Galatians 6:7-10, I Timothy 5:24-25). The greatest reward we can receive from developing the secret lives God calls us to is the priceless treasure of intimate relationship with Him (Philippians 3:7-21) ~ coming to know Him as our ALL in ALL.

If we knew Jesus was returning tomorrow, is there anything about our lives we would suddenly find the desire and strength to change today? If so, may we examine ourselves to see if we’re truly still in the faith, “in Christ”, according to God’s definitions (John 15, II Corinthians 12:19-13:11 , Matthew 7:13-27; 24:36-51, Hebrews 10:19-39, I John, Ephesians 5:1-17, II Timothy 2:19, I Thessalonians 4:1-8).

May we live in constant awareness that the things we do in secret are on display in full view of the Lord, and will eventually be exposed openly as well. May we live transparently before Him, knowing He already knows all and is willing and able to help us overcome in any area of struggle if we’ll run to His throne of mercy and grace (Hebrews 4:12-16). He never allows us to be tempted beyond what we can bear (I Corinthians 9:24-10:13) and never calls us to do anything He doesn’t give us the grace/power to do by His Spirit in and through us (Titus 2:11-15). He’s our Ever-Present Help with and in us to empower us to choose the way of escape, to crucify our flesh, and to yield to and live by His Spirit (in addition to previous psgs – Psalm 46:1, Galatians 5:16-25 ). May we all return to the Lord in any way needed, make sure we’re truly born of Him and abiding in Him – and pursue private and public lives marked by a “perfected love” that will cast out fear and instead bring comfort, hope, and anticipation of reward.

Then Jesus said to His disciples, If anyone desires to be My disciple, let him deny himself [disregard, lose sight of, and forget himself and his own interests] and take up his cross and follow Me [cleave steadfastly to Me, conform wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying, also]. For whoever is bent on saving his [temporal] life [his comfort and security here] shall lose it [eternal life]; and whoever loses his life [his comfort and security here] for My sake shall find it [life everlasting]. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life {his soul} [his blessed life in the kingdom of God]? Or what would a man give as an exchange for his {soul} [blessed] life [in the kingdom of God]? For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory (majesty, splendor) of His Father with His angels, and then He will render account and reward {recompense either good or bad} every man in accordance with what he has done. Matthew 16:24-27

So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad. Since, then, we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade men. II Corinthians 5:9-11

So brace up your minds; be sober (circumspect, morally alert); set your hope wholly and unchangeably on the grace (divine favor) that is coming to you when Jesus Christ (the Messiah) is revealed. [Live] as children of obedience [to God]; do not conform yourselves to the evil desires [that governed you] in your former ignorance [when you did not know the requirements of the Gospel]. But as the One Who called you is holy, you yourselves also be holy in all your conduct and manner of living. For it is written, You shall be holy, for I am holy. And if you call upon Him as [your] Father Who judges each one impartially according to what he does, [then] you should conduct yourselves with true reverence {reverent fear} throughout the time of your temporary residence [on the earth, whether long or short]. You must know (recognize) that you were redeemed (ransomed) from the useless (fruitless) way of living inherited by tradition from [your] forefathers, not with corruptible things [such as] silver and gold, But [you were purchased] with the precious blood of Christ (the Messiah), like that of a [sacrificial] lamb without blemish or spot. I Peter 1:13-19

Behold, I am coming soon, and I shall bring My wages and rewards with Me, to repay and render to each one just what his own actions and his own work merit.
Revelation 22:12

Find Your Divine Place

A few weeks ago I had a gruesome dream. When I woke up and began to pray about it, the Lord reminded me of how it was similar to a dream I had many years ago.

He gave us the dream from years ago as one of many dramatic words and dreams during a season when we were wholeheartedly seeking Him to know whether He was calling us to leave our congregation to go to another. In the dream, people were being held captive in a church. Eventually, those who did not escape were being cut apart (limbs severed) by their captors. Jesse and I were hiding in the water from those taking people captive. We kept looking deep under the surface of the water to see if there was any reason for us to remain there, but the only things in the water were discarded severed body parts. We realized this would be our future if we stayed; we escaped.

The Lord showed us the interpretation that at times people are “held captive” in a particular church. Though God is calling them elsewhere, they are made to feel for various reasons that if they left they would be out of God’s will for their lives. Some stay because it’s where they’ve always gone, others out of obligation to family members or friends (fear of rejection, fear of man), some because they’ve gotten involved in service there and it would be difficult to replace them, etc. Eventually those held captive were “dismembered.” The Lord showed us that when people are not allowed to follow the leading of His Spirit to find the church He has called them to be connected to, they end up “dismembered” from the body of Christ. They are “cut off” from being connected to His body where they are meant to be and are, therefore, unable to fulfill their purpose. When they are “dismembered” from the place in Christ’s body where He created them to be connected, His life can no longer flow through them as it should. These “dismembered” body parts “wither and die.” Jesse and I were hiding in the water which symbolized being hidden in the Spirit. We were looking deep under the surface in the Spirit to see if there was any reason for us to remain (any hidden treasure in the Spirit to stay for), but there were only “dismembered” body parts of those who had been held captive. We did not want this to be our future. Though the Lord had called us to that church many years earlier for a season of our lives, after many many months of wholeheartedly seeking Him and receiving so many astounding words and confirmations that we finally knew beyond the shadow of a doubt what He was saying, we followed Him to the new congregation He was calling us to at that time.

The more recent dream, from a few weeks ago, was about a minister, who has a para-church ministry, and his mother. Jesse and I noticed something was not quite right about the mother (something about her head was very abnormal). We went on an undercover mission to investigate. As we observed their operation, we watched in horror as we saw a picture of the minister’s real mother and realized that the woman posing as his mother was not really his mother. Rather the minister was actually also masquerading as his mother. Our horror increased as we noticed severed body parts around the room. The minister was attempting to connect them together on a synthetic frame of a body. He was attaching ends of fingers to wire hands, and other body parts on metal frames in order to create his own freakish franken-bodies. Their heads were an especially frightening sight.

As I prayed about what I thought the Lord was saying, I received a clear confirmation of one aspect of the dream the first day, and another confirmation last night of the interpretation I believe the Lord gave. The minister’s name in the dream meant “gift of God.” A mother in a dream can be symbolic of the church. I believe the Lord was showing us that, whether or not they intend to, some para-church ministries, which are built around a person’s spiritual gift (“gift of God”), are masquerading as the church. We understand the church refers to the people (Christians), but in this context, the Lord is illustrating how many are viewing involvement with certain para-church ministries as a substitute for involvement with a local church body. Many follow these ministries to the exclusion of becoming involved in a local church where God has called them to be connected. In doing so, as in the first dream, they end up “dismembered” from His body. Again, though it may not be their intention, in essence, some of these ministers are attempting to create their own “body” of Christ from among these “dismembered” body parts of their followers. The result is an abnormal and ghastly franken-body of Christ. The significance of the frightening sight of the distorted and abnormal heads on these bodies is that Jesus Christ is the true Head of the church (His body). Yet, these artificial bodies all had their own distorted heads. This symbolizes that those who are exclusively following these ministries, not allowing the Lord to connect them to His body where He has truly called them to be, are not under the Headship, the Lordship, of Jesus. They are under their own distorted and abnormal headship/lordship.

God has a special place for each of us. He wants to connect us to His body to fulfill a specific purpose. Let’s make sure we have not been “dismembered” from the place He created us to be. Let’s also make sure we have not become part of a franken-body or franken-bride of Christ ~ made up of “dismembered” body parts artificially connected by man. I pray we will all wholeheartedly seek God’s will for where He has called us to be connected that we may serve and be part of His family. May we all truly be under His Headship/Lordship, get in our divine place, and fulfill our divine purpose in Him.

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Humble Service in the Body of Christ

For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully. Romans 12:1-8

 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. 14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. 15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work. Ephesians 4:11-16

Testimony of God’s Forgiveness, Healing, and Hope Post-Abortion

As we talk about our individual and national need to repent of sin (tearing down “idols” and “altars” to false gods) and to wholeheartedly return to God (rebuilding the “altar” of the Lord) to worship and follow Him alone, it’s important to emphasize that our purpose in calling for repentance and speaking about the changes the Lord has revealed must occur in our individual lives, the church, and the nation is not to condemn people who have experienced these things. The message of repentance is not one of hatred, but one of hope. It reveals that though we are headed to judgment, God is crying out to us to turn back to Him so we may be spared. His desire is for those who have experienced abortion, those bound in any lifestyle of sin, and for ALL, to turn from sin and receive the forgiveness, salvation, deliverance, healing, restoration, and life found only through a personal relationship with Jesus as our Lord and Savior.

The following testimony of God’s forgiveness, healing, and hope post-abortion is an excerpt from the first book in my series on the Holy Spirit:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In this testimony, we can see how God may manifest multiple gifts through one person to minister to another. On this particular occasion I had the opportunity to minister healing to a new friend who was from a similar background to mine, but was open to hearing more about the Holy Spirit. One night, after sharing about a physical issue she suffered from, she agreed to let me pray for her healing. When I laid hands on her and prayed, I felt the tangible power of God; but I was still too young in my understanding of operating in the gifts to know whether I should ask her if she also felt God’s manifest power and if she believed she had received. Feeling something is not a requirement; many people feel nothing, but feeling something can quicken someone’s faith to receive. She thanked me for my prayer, but a few months later I learned that she had surgery for the issue for which we had prayed.
I was very troubled by this and began asking God why she hadn’t received the manifestation of her healing when I knew that His provision and power were available and that I’d even felt them manifest when I prayed. As I cried out in prayer over a period of time, God gave me a word of knowledge that she had not received because of self-condemnation from something which happened in her past. Her own guilt, not fully believing at a heart level that God had forgiven her, was blocking her from receiving His provision of healing that He longed for her to receive. As I continued to press in, praying for more specific revelation from the Lord, one night He supernaturally revealed to me that the self-condemnation was the result of an abortion. Again, because I was so new to all of this, I wasn’t certain that these things I was hearing in my heart and mind were actually from God, if it was just me, or even worse, the enemy.
I kept praying about it for months, wanting a confirmation that would remove all doubt. Though I never received that, neither could I ever shake the thought that I needed to “step out and find out” (as many say about walking by faith). When I finally stirred up the courage to approach her, I wrote what I thought God had spoken to me in general terms to test the waters. I didn’t mention the specific sin, but just said that I believed God had revealed to me that guilt and self-condemnation over a sin from her past had kept her from receiving the healing the Lord wanted her to receive, and then ministered to her about His forgiveness. She responded in amazement, confiding that she had just started to meet with a counselor to try to deal with something that happened over 20 years earlier. I was thankful that I’d heard at least that much accurately, but was still uncertain if I should share in further detail. I continued to pray about it for several more months.
Quite a bit of time passed in which we had not seen each other, but one day she came over on short notice for prayer and ministry due to an unexpected personal crisis in her life. Though she definitely needed prayer for the current situation, I felt the Lord impress on me that it was going to be unfruitful to pray for her unless we first dealt with the root of her self-condemnation. If we failed to address that root issue, it would continue to hinder her from receiving the answers and provision He wanted to give her ~ not because He wasn’t giving, but because she was unable to receive. Due to the critical nature of her current situation, there was no room or time for another failure. So I took a deep breath and stepped out in faith. There were actually two words of knowledge that I believed I had received. The first, I was less certain had been for her. I had received it while praying for both her and another woman, so I didn’t know if it was for one or the other or both of them. When I told her that word, she just listened, not confirming one way or the other. So it took everything I had to rally the courage to continue. By the grace of God, I stepped out further, telling her that I believed God had showed me that the root of her self-condemnation was the result of an abortion. As soon as I said it, she burst into tears. Then she confirmed that both words were accurate. She had kept these things secret from everyone for all these years, but the burden of guilt and shame was slowly destroying her.
The Lord led me to tell her that He did not reveal this to me in order to shame her or condemn her. He revealed it to me because He wanted her to be set free from the shame and condemnation that had been keeping her from experiencing His love and blessings for so many years. She believed she didn’t deserve them ~ and the truth is that none of us do! Thank God for Jesus! He wanted her to know that His forgiveness had been hers from the first moment she had repented, and that He had removed her sin as far as the east is from the west and remembered it no more (choosing not to hold it against her).
Because she knew that there was no way I could have known her past with my natural mind, she knew this was truly the word of the Lord. This enabled her to finally believe and receive His forgiveness. It is one thing to have mental information from God’s written Word (logos) that He forgives our sins; it is another thing entirely for the Lord to make His forgiveness a heart revelation. One personal word (rhema) from God can do more to bring healing than a lifetime of therapy and counseling. Mental information from His Word only becomes heart revelation that transforms our lives through personal relationship with Him ~ Word and Spirit working together.
She asked me for some Scriptures from my boxes of Scripture cards ~ knowing I had an entire arsenal of artillery for any occasion. As I began to reach for a box, suddenly the Lord reminded me of something. That morning I awoke earlier than normal and couldn’t go back to sleep, which at the time was a very rare occurrence for me. Usually, when I wake up (wide awake) during sleeping hours I get up to seek the Lord in case there is someone He wants me to pray for. That morning, I got up and went to my Scripture card box to meditate on a stack of Scriptures. I picked a stack that I hadn’t looked at for quite a while, and as I was going through it, found two cards that had the same Scripture. I pulled out the duplicate card and set it on the coffee table, thinking that I would re-file it under a different category later. Here in the moment with my friend, as I reached for my box, the Lord reminded me about my time with Him that morning and told me to give her the duplicate Scripture card on the coffee table. It was the exact Scripture she needed and was further confirmation of what I had ministered to her.
The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him….  Psalm 103:8-13
That morning at 5 a.m. I had no idea that later that day I’d be sitting there with her, but God did! It was an amazing and powerful time. I felt like the Lord also gave me some prophetic words about her destiny that she said confirmed things He had spoken to her in the past couple of months through various other people. All of this was just what she needed that day to convince her not to give up on life. In the natural realm, this was another situation where I was in WAY OVER MY HEAD and would have been utterly helpless. But thanks to the Holy Spirit and His supernatural gifts, He provided just what was needed to bring healing to the brokenhearted in a way I never could on my own.
I’m also thrilled to report that after being set free from self-condemnation, she was then able to receive supernatural healing on several other occasions when I prayed for her. On one of these occasions the physical healing was also accompanied by further emotional healing when she shared a dream that had troubled her. The Lord gave me a word of wisdom to interpret the dream which helped to free her from more of the trauma she had been through and to restore her joy. She fell in love with the Lord like never before because of how He made Himself known to her in such personal and powerful ways.
We pray all who have had abortions will find this same forgiveness, healing, and restoration through relationship with Jesus Christ, and will one day be able to be reunited with their children who are now enjoying the perfection of heaven with the Lord.
